Galloping Cows at the Toronto Film Festival

Guest Blog by Joanne Schmidt

The stars will be walking the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 8 & 9, 2010 and will be receiving wonderful gift bags that include Nova Scotia’s Galloping Cows products.

The new, decadent Brandy Cranberry Marmalade will be in each of those gift bags that the celebrities take home.  Produced in Port Hood Nova Scotia, our small preserve company is most widely known for our line of flavourful pepper jellies, but we also produce many fresh jams and jellies, and apple butters from the fields of Nova Scotia. Each jar is still produced in a small batch and hand bottled.

We chose to send the Brandy Cranberry Marmalade, because it is so reminiscent of Nova Scotia and the fall cranberry harvest. Plus it’s a treat that can make anyone feel like a Star first thing in the morning!

Say “Cheese”

It is with pride that Fox Hill Cheese House crafts over 20 varieties of cheese using milk from their own herd of Holstein cows.  A small herd allows them to pay strict attention to the quality forage fed to their cows and to the production of clean, pure milk that is drug and hormone-free.

“Quality, consistency, service and education is what we focus on, what we try to do,” says owner Jeanita Rand. “I think that is what people want if they are coming to us.”

Melissa Rand, cheese maker for Fox Hill and Jeanita and Rick’s daughter, started out in the family business after graduating from Acadia University. A recent trip to Toronto, where she visited a local cheese house and met cheese expert Gurth Pretty, inspired   her to experiment even more with their varieties of cheese. more…
