Domaine de Grand Pré wins “Pomme d’Or” Award

Domaine de Grand Pré was a guest at the 4th International “Apfelwein im Roemer” event in Frankfurt, Germany recently. This event is highly recognized for its quality throughout the industry. Domaine de Grand Pre was the only representative from Canada, amongst 40 cider makers from Germany, Switzerland, France, Austria and the U.K., presenting over 250 products. The winery participated with its apple dessert wine, Pomme d’Or.

During the Gala Award Dinner at the 5-star Hotel “Hessischer Hof” in Frankfurt, Domaine de Grand Pré won the  event’s “Pomme D’Or” award in the category of National/International for its apple dessert wine, coincidentally called “Pomme d’Or”.  Comments like “sensational” and “outstanding quality” were used to describe the wine at the award’s presentation. The award garnered much attention among industry experts, TV, press and the public during the closing tasting of the event.

The Maple Leaf (and Syrup) Forever!

Blog by Mike Kennedy

What started as a hobby in Brian Allaway’s backyard almost 30 years ago has resulted in an extensive line of sweet and delicious products that invoke a sense of Canadian pride and a chorus of “that’s pretty delicious, eh?” with every taste.

Allaway, the President of Acadian Maple Products in Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia, dreamt up the idea of sharing maple’s delicious properties in 1982, as part of building a tasty educational experience for his children, Cara and Brian William. The rest, is sweet, sweet history…. and, as I’ll go on to explain, a sweet present and future! more…

Setting Trendz in Burnside

Blog by Natasha Fillmore

I live in Dartmouth. You know, the Darkside…we’ve all heard the less-than-complimentary nicknames, but it’s actually a pretty amazing place to live.  I’ve chosen to live here for almost six years and I like it. House-hunters can get a lot more for their hard-earned money, I have an eight minute commute to my office, and I don’t pay a premium to be within stumbling distance from downtown Halifax. This is why it always gives me such satisfaction to find a new place to eat on the Dark Horse Side.

Last week, my partner and I went for dinner at Trendz Cafe & Wine Bar in the Best Western Hotel in Burnside. It’s been on my list of places to try for some time, so I was excited to finally get there. Walking into the restaurant certainly didn’t feel like walking into a hotel; it’s chic, warm and very inviting. Soft banquettes line the walls, inviting you to have a glass of wine and settle in for your evening. more…
