The 2012 festival marks the fifth annual  Nova Scotia Winter Icewine Festival. Between February 2-12, celebrate Nova Scotia’s internationally award-winning Icewines. Sample Icewine paired with local cuisine, learn how Icewine is made, try your hand at pruning or book a Winter Icewine Experience Getaway. Nova Scotia winemakers and some of the province’s finest chefs come together to celebrate their passion for local food and wine during the Winter Icewine Festival.

Trattoria della Nonna presents the 2nd Annual White Truffle Festival

November 17, 18 & 19, 2011

For the second year running, Taste of Nova Scotia member Trattoria della Nonna in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia will be hosting a weekend long White Truffle Festival.

The elusive white truffle, foraged by hand in Italy, will be the star in nearly every dish throughout the weekend. In addition to a truffle infused tasting menu, diners will have the option of adding sliced white truffle to any dish on the menu including gelato!

Chef Terry Vassallo will be preparing a number special menu items such as, risotto with caramelized celery root, prosecco, duck stock, Grana Padano and fresh white truffle or pizza with carbonara sauce, provolone, and Parmesan, shaved white truffle.

Fish Cakes with Smoked Salmon Mayonnaise

Fish cakes are a classic Nova Scotian dish. One of the joys of eating fish cakes is that nearly every recipe is different. This particular recipe features a breaded fish cake with haddock and lobster. It’s crispy exterior is complemented by a rich smoked salmon mayonnaise. Delicious.

Ingredients

5 medium potatoes, peeled
6 large shrimp, peeled
1 tbsp (15 ml) butter
¼ cup (50 ml) onion, chopped
½ small red pepper, finely diced
1 small garlic clove, crushed
1 tbsp (15 ml) lemon juice
¼ tsp (1 ml) parsley, chopped
¼ tsp (1 ml) dried or fresh thyme
¼ tsp (1 ml) Cajun seasoning, or to taste
4 oz (125 g) lobster meat

The Slow Motion Food Film Festival opens Thursday, November 10, 2011 with the first event of a weekend long slate of films and food activities.  The Barn Dinner is sponsored by Select Nova Scotia and takes place in the newly built Wolfville Farmer’s Market.  Film and food buffs  will delight at this gala dinner featuring chefs Craig Flinn (Chives), Dennis Johnston (FID Resto), Peter Dewar (NSCC), Jason Lynch (Le Caveau), Luis Clavel (Atlantica Hotel), Peter Jackson (Formerly of Jacks Grill, Edmonton), Renee Lavallee (The Feisty Chef),  Chris Velden (Flying Apron), Brad Bowden (Glen Arbour), and Jesse Vergen (The Saint John Alehouse).

Chef Amy Scott uses fresh and seasonal ingredients to create the menu and her signature dishes influenced by classic Fresh Cuisine. Start with a glass of local wine or beer, for an appetizer; we recommend the seafood chowder, a local favorite, or the white onion soup. For your main try our delicious Broiled Haddock with a Lobster Sauce, Seafood Lasagna or on the lighter side order the homemade Broccoli & Old Cheddar Quiche or Rappie Pie. Make sure you save room for our homemade steamed cranberry pudding, bread pudding with lemon sauce, or a slice of one of our seasonal pies.
